Velvet Revolver !!

Hey All

This old man has once again gone to a show - and here's my report

Group: Velvet Revolver

Who ??? That's why I went alone - nobody knows this band - they are awesome though and a great Rock n Roll band for 2005
They are made up of Slash, Duff and Matt from Guns N Roses and Scott the singer from Stone Temple Pilots and another guy named Dave Kushner

So I leave work and go with a bunch of good guys from work to Cactus Club to start getting liquored up. Enjoyed my time there - our waitress was cute - kind of looked like the mouse from the Rescuers

I think I drank 5 pints or so there and then Dave from work was kind enough to drop me off the coliseum - major rain. Got inside and went to the beer gardens and had 5 more beers while the opening band Three Days Grace was playing - they seemed like an angry band. I didn't fit in too well there I don't think - I've good good hair :) it's not purple or spiked or all shaved off - my shirt wasn't black and I lacked tattoos and piercings.

Time to get onto the floor for General Admission and make my way to the front - floor was packed pretty good. I followed one guy who was about 300 pounds in. He laughed as he would back in and just fall into the crowd, they had no choice but to move. As we got close I chatted with him. He was selling his joints for $5 each out of a zip lock back - he had one in his mouth one after another - started with 30 and he had run out before the show started. He goes "This is my second concert woohoo !!" He was 24. I felt old. He said Ozzy Rules !! I told him I saw Ozzy with Randy Rhodes in 1981. He nearly fell over trying to hug me and told me it was great to be near an old rocker like me. He offered me a toke and I declined. I felt old.

Show starts and Scott Weilland is a great singer and front man for this group - almost cartoon like - really enjoyed him and of course love Slash and his guitar work.I inched my way up and I past a guy who was just soaked in sweat and I veered away not wanting to be near him - it was gross. I continued to use my muscular toned body :) to wedge myself closer - it was tough - but I persevered and got right behind a guy at the front. It was the sweaty guy - uck - I tried not to go near him and just hold onto the railing at the front. I took a few pics with my lame disposable camera (see attached). We were all extremely squished with no room to move at all, not an inch. One hand on the rail and another on my chest or in the air pounding my fist. Another guy in front accuses me of having my hand in his pocket and I had to convince him it wasn't me. Then the girl next to me, sweaty tattooed chick, started yelling and kicking me quite hard and I'm dazed and confused as to what that's all about. Supposedly I had my hand down her backside but when she realized where my hands were and there was no way that was me, she apologized. A lot of good that did, that hurt. I think she started on the guy behind her - I went back to rocking.

It was so hot in the front, people were offering $30 for bottled water from the security in front. They had a big cooler full and drank it in front of us and didn't share. No that's a lie, they did share, they would open it, take a few swigs and then shake the bottle on us getting us wetter than we already were from the combined sweat bath we were all sharing.

Good show - didn't stick around to see the tour bus and all that, Met up with Chris and Jalana (and family) and they ever so kindly drove me right home on a crappy rainy night. Over 30 minutes out of their way. Very lucky cause the state I was in, an hour and half bus ride wouldn't have been pretty.

My ears rang for 2 days, my sore body ached for days. I feel old.

Why do I do this ? how much fun does this sound like ? why would I subject myself to this ? I don't know, I just gotta do it, been doing it since I was 16 and I don't want to feel any older.

Til next time
