Bad Day - As Danial Powters current hit goes – you had a bad day
What’s was bad about it ? I returned my fancy video camera I got for the trip and now don’t have to worry about the $1200 potential exposure of losing it. That wasn’t bad. I went to the mall and bought 4 pairs of pants for the trip, all of which didn’t work, that wasn’t bad. I was reading the kids their good night story before bed as I wouldn’t have this opportunity for 3 weeks and enjoying it. I had a lot to do last night but kids first, packing 2nd, work third. Then the night turned bad.
As I read, I hear screaming and crashing going on downstairs – some bad happened. The 3 of us fly out of bed to see what’s up with Linda and as we get to the bottom of the stairs, we are engulfed in smoke. Linda has run outside into the yard and is screaming on the front lawn – Ok, this doesn’t look good. Linda can’t explain or talk as she is so distraught and I have no idea of what’s going on. The whole downstairs area and my office/garage is just covered in thick smoke – very scary and confusing what to do. Breathing is very difficult.
It turns out our fire extinguisher blew off and the smoke was a fine yellow powder which was spreading everywhere. I had thoughts of mount st. Helens as the dust settled and started to leave a think layer of yellow on everything we could see. My computers, my clothes for the trip, my bags, my desk and papers – we’re talking everything. Linda and I didn’t talk much during the 3 hour clean up as we were both stunned as to what happened. I was already a bit anxious trying to get through my busy evening let alone an extra 3 hour cleanup.
We cleaned and cleaned and vacuumed and Linda did washes and washes but we got through it.
So I think we figured out what happened. I’ve got this long piece of wood which stretches across my office/garage – 12 feet. It fell to the floor and Linda was 15 feet away when it fell. It landed on top of the fire extinguisher handle and set off the extinguisher. Linda dropped everything she had in her hands and ran to it and it was spraying everywhere and she managed to get it out to our front yard which turning into a cloud of dust as well. So an unfortunate series of events led to my bad evening.
I’m on the train now on the way to work and very happy that I’m all set for my trip now. I can’t believe I get on a plane tomorrow for our trip to Athens. It’s 92 degrees in Athens. Wow. I’m going to be there Thursday and see the Acropolis. !!
